Federal budget includes $1 billion for HSR

On April 8, Congress passed a continuing resolution to fund the federal government through April 15, as Congress completes work on a long-term budget agreement.
The continuing resolution reduces funding for the High-Speed Intercity Passenger Rail program from FY2010’s $2.5 billion to $1 billion in FY2011, according to a press release issued by the Senate Appropriations Committee.
But the apparent funding decrease isn’t as hard of a hit as it seems. President Obama’s FY2011 budget request only included $1 billion for the high-speed/intercity passenger rail program.
