Rail News: High-Speed Rail
Joint venture Fluor Corp. and Bombardier Transportation recently presented their Florida high-speed rail plan one last time to Florida High Speed Rail Authority (FHSRA) officials before the authority awards a contract Oct. 27 for the project’s first phase.
Under the Flour-Bombardier plan, high-speed trains could be running in Florida six years after the contract is signed. Bombardier would provide its Jet Train high-speed technology, which is designed to support train speed up to 150 mph.
The team would establish a public-private partnership with FHSRA to design, construct and finance the project, and run and maintain it for 30 years. Flour-Bombardier would be financially self-sustaining on an operating basis and start paying a return to the state for its infrastructure investment in the system’s second year of operation, according to a prepared statement.
