This month, the Hoosier Environmental Council will host public presentations on higher-speed passenger rail service in four Indiana communities: Greensburg, Rushville, Shelbyville and Crawfordsville. The first meeting was held Aug. 1; subsequent meetings will be held Aug. 6, 8 and 21.
The presentations will highlight the proposed Chicago-Indianapolis-Cincinnati higher-speed rail route, including information on the economic and environmental benefits of the proposed overall Midwest high-speed rail network, amenities associated with the proposed system and where Indiana currently is in the passenger-rail planning process.
During the past five years, all intercity passenger-rail routes serving Indiana registered ridership increases above 10 percent, with 85 percent ridership growth between Indianapolis and Chicago, according to the council.
