advertisement
L.B. Foster Co. recently was awarded a $5.3 million contract by the Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority to supply 5.6 tons of rail for the Downeaster-Portland North project.
The agency is using a $35 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act grant to help fund the project, which includes rehabilitating and expanding a 26.4-mile stretch between Portland and Brunswick, Maine. The improvements will enable the authority to extend Amtrak’s Downeaster service 30 miles north. Construction began in July and is expected to be complete by the end of 2012.
To be delivered by October, the rail is being welded by Steel Dynamics at its Continuous Welded Rail Products facility in Columbia City, Ind.
