New York 'in the HSR ballgame,' LaHood says

U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood was at the Rochester, N.Y., Amtrak station last week to reaffirm the Obama Administration’s commitment to a high-speed rail system serving upstate New York.

In January, the Administration announced that New York would receive $151 million in high-speed stimulus funds to begin building a third track dedicated to passenger rail between Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Utica and Albany.

In the coming years, billions of dollars will be available to states for high-speed rail development, and New York is “in the ball game in a serious way,” said LaHood.
