Ohio DOT, rail commission urge 3C communities to consider station-area development

Passenger stations in Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati and Dayton will serve as more than just stopping points along Ohio’s proposed 3C “Quick Start” service, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation and Ohio Rail Development Commission (ORDC). The proposed six stops could become hubs for all modes of transportation and spark sustainable, mixed-use development
ORDC and ODOT staff have met with officials from cities along the corridor to discuss station-area development. The message: to view station stops as a place not only where other modes of ground transportation come together, but as a catalyst for new development or adaptive re-use of existing buildings.
The 3C project calls for operating trains between Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati and Dayton at speeds between 79 mph and 110 mph. ODOT submitted an application to the Federal Railroad Administration seeking $564 million in Track 2 high-speed stimulus funds for the project to cover needed investments in infrastructure, station stops and equipment to meet ridership demand, maximize market response and minimize initial operating costs.
