HS2 Ltd. recently awarded Parsons Brinckerhoff two contracts to design high-speed and conventional rail systems for the United Kingdom’s second high-speed rail line, which will run between London Euston and Birmingham in the West Midlands. The contracts are valued at $12.8 million.

PB will work closely with HS2 to provide a “whole system” approach to optimize the overall rail systems’ design and provide “the appropriate balance with functionality, safety, sustainability, cost and value,” according to a press release.

In addition, PB will serve as the lead firm overseeing all designers for system-wide, and operational and maintenance issues. The company also will support other designers on civil engineering, construction and environmental issues in specific geographical areas.

PB will work with partners DB International GmbH, which will provide operational and rolling stock advice, and EC Harris L.L.P., which will provide cost planning advice.
