PennDOT completes environmental assessment, prepares stimulus application for Harrisburg-Philadelphia line
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) now is accepting public comment on an environmental assessment to improve the Keystone Corridor East Amtrak line from Harrisburg to Philadelphia.
The assessment will be submitted as part of the state's application for Track 2 high-speed rail funds under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Applications are due to the Federal Railroad Administration on Oct. 2. PennDOT is proposing to upgrade infrastructure to raise speeds on the Harrisburg-to-Philadelphia portion of the corridor.
The state also plans to apply for Track 2 funding for projects under the proposed Scranton-to-Hoboken passenger-rail service and the Pittsburgh High Speed Magnetic Levitation project.
