Recently, the Québec government has “reaffirmed its commitment to moving ahead” with two U.S. high-speed rail corridors.

Québec Minister of Transport Julie Boulet appointed Raymond Chrétien to act as the Government of Québec’s official representative in talks to develop Montréal-to-New York and Montréal-to-Boston high-speed rail service.

“The development of rail corridors between Québec and New England is an exceptional opportunity in terms of economic relations with our American neighbors, the positioning of Québec and its largest city on the American east coast, and the province’s economic and cultural influence throughout North America,” Chrétien said in a prepared statement.

In addition, Québec Delegate General John Parisella expressed his support for the project during the New York Rail Summit on Monday in Albany, N.Y. The government of Québec is committed to moving ahead with the Montréal-to-New York project, which will contribute to developing the regional economy while reducing greenhouse gas emissions, Parisella said during the event.

According to a report published in Buffalo Business First, Parisella said Québec is willing to finance rail corridors beyond its own borders.
