Demand for products such as track materials are on the rise in Europe, due in large part to high-speed rail projects, according to a report issued last week by consulting firm Frost & Sullivan.
In 2011, the European materials market registered revenue of € 3.5 million, according to the report, "Europeans Materials Market for High Speed Rail Infrastructure." By 2018, the market is expected to reach € 10 million, of which track materials will account for € 8.5 million and cable materials, the remainder.
"In comparison to other modes of transport, rail transport infrastructure is high on the European Commission's agenda, mainly due to its lower carbon footprint," said Frost & Sullivan Senior Research Analyst Deepak Karthikeyan. "As the European Commission boosts investments in electricity powered, high-speed trains, materials for HSR infrastructure will experience high demand."
