Today, the Russian Railways opened a new high-speed rail route between Nizhny Novgorod, Moscow and St. Petersburg.
High-speed trains have been running on the Moscow-to-St. Petersburg line since December 2009. To prepare for the extension of high-speed service on the Nizhny Novgorod-to-Moscow line, the infrastructure was modernized, including construction of passenger platforms and barriers, and overhauling of overhead lines, according to the railroad.
Work began on the line in 2006.
