State DOTs to host meetings on Chicago-Detroit HSR corridor
advertisement
This month, the Michigan, Indiana and Illinois departments of transportation will host a series of public meetings in their respective states to discuss the Chicago-Detroit/Pontiac, Mich., passenger-rail corridor. The agencies are preparing to begin an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the project.
The states want to operate trains at speeds up to 110 mph by upgrading the 304-mile corridor. During the meetings, transportation department officials will provide an overview of the program, outline the purpose and need for the improvements, and identify potential issues that should be considered in the EIS.
The EIS is being prepared to evaluate passenger-rail improvements and the impact the upgrades would have on the environment, jobs, the economy, air quality, traffic and area neighborhoods.
