Texas Central yesterday announced an early contract involvement (ECI) agreement with Mass. Electric Construction Co. to define a future construction contract to build a high-speed train between Houston and Dallas.
The ECI will define the scope, execution plan, schedule and price for the future construction contract, which is expected to be signed later this year, Texas Central officials said in a press release.
This agreement is the most recent milestone as Texas Central moves toward the construction phase of the high-speed train, which is expected to begin in 2020.
A Kiewit Corp. subsidiary, Mass. Electric is a train system installation firm that will focus on installing the core system and critical safety elements including necessary power, signaling and communications equipment.
The core system that will be installed by Mass. Electric is a key component of the Central Japan Railway’s N700S Shinkansen technology that will be deployed for Texas Central's train.
The rail line is being designed and engineered using a “complete system approach,” meaning the trains, infrastructure and supporting technologies will be integrated from the beginning, Texas Central officials said.
Under a core systems installation agreement, Mass. Electric would install the systems that supply and distribute electrical power for running the train and related equipment, signaling and control of the trains, and communications, to ensure the trains, the track and operators all communicate with one another and with network operations.
