At its conference in Los Angeles earlier this month, the US High Speed Rail Association presented awards to three people, honoring their "vision and courage to help bring high-speed rail to America," according to a press release.

The association presented Mineta Transportation Institute Executive Director Rod Diridon with the Lifetime Achievement Award, which recognizes an individual who has dedicated years to improving transportation options in the United States. Diridon has chaired more than 100 international, national, state and local programs, most of which were related to transit and/or the environment. He also is chairman emeritus of the California High-Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA) board.

Dan Richard was presented with the Heroes of High Speed Rail Award, which is presented to individuals who have made a major contribution in bringing high-speed rail to the United States. Currently chairman of the CHSRA, Richard is a principal at Dan Richard Advisors. He previously was manager partner and co-founder of infrastructure finance firm Heritage Oak Capital Partners and a member of Bay Area Rapid Transit's board.

Finally, USHSR presented Anthony Perl with the Transport Revolution Award, which recognizes individuals who "push for sweeping change in transportation in America," according to the press release. Perl serves as director of the urban studies program at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, British Columbia. He has authored several transportation-related books and published numerous scholarly journals related to transportation research and policy.
