Today, the U.S. Department of Transportation announced it obligated more than $177 million in High-Speed Intercity Passenger Rail funds to the Illinois Department of Transportation to complete a project enabling the state to operate twice-daily, round-trip service between Chicago and the Quad Cities.

IDOT will use the funds to make infrastructure improvements along the route, as well as build a new station in Geneseo and a layover facility in the Quad Cities area, upgrade communication and signaling systems, and purchase new passenger-rail equipment.
