Siemens Mobility’s plans to build the first U.S. high-speed rail production facility in upstate New York is a milestone in the development of a new industry to support a nationwide bullet train network, according to U.S. High Speed Rail (USHSR).

“High-speed rail is now a reality in America with projects underway or being planned across the country,” said Ezra Silk, political director of the U.S. High Speed Rail Coalition, in a press release. “America’s new electric high-speed rail industry will spark new businesses, technologies, innovations and careers, create millions of good-paying union jobs and reduce dependence on highly polluting fossil fuels.”

Siemens, passenger-rail service provider Brightline West and U.S. Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) on Sept. 9  announced that Horseheads, New York, will be the location for the first-of-its-kind facility. The plant that will produce the "American Pioneer 220," which will operate on the Brightline West line linking Las Vegas and Southern California. Production is slated to begin in 2026.

The train will travel up to 186 mph. The travel time between final stops is projected to be just over two hours compared to four hours by car.
