Virginia and North Carolina recently formed the Virginia-North Carolina High Speed Rail Compact.

Authorized by Congress and established through legislation enacted by Virginia and North Carolina general assemblies, the compact was created to advance high-speed rail initiatives in the two states, primarily through the Southeast High Speed Rail Corridor, according to a prepared statement.

During a first meeting yesterday, the compact passed a resolution to coordinate the submission of grant applications and jointly support efforts to obtain funding for the Southeast High Speed Rail Corridor.

The compact plans to meet at least twice a year, with the next meeting tentatively scheduled for January in Virginia.
