Westcode to outfit Korean high-speed trains with power converter equipment
advertisement
IXYS Corp. subsidiary Westcode Semiconductors Ltd. has reached an agreement with Hyundai Heavy Industry in Korea to supply Korail, Korea’s national train operator, with its 2400A 4500V press pack insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) and High Power SONIC fast recovery diode technology for the agency’s newest generation of high-speed trains.
Westcode’s IGBT forms the building block for the high-speed power converter. The next generation press-pack IGBT features an “improved safe operating area” and reduction in on-state losses of about 25 percent from the previous model, according to a prepared statement.
Korail plans to introduce 13 KTX-Sancheon train sets by year’s end and five more in early 2011.
