The Alameda Corridor Transportation Authority (ACTA) recently elected Los Angeles City Councilwoman Janice Hahn chairman to succeed Long Beach District One Councilmember Bonnie Lowenthal, who now will serve as vice chairman. The chair and vice chair serve one-year terms.

ACTA board members also passed a resolution that focuses authority staff on four key projects: a port access expressway, channel rail bridge designed to help increase on-dock rail loadings, feasibility study for a zero-emissions container mover system and the relocation of empty container storage away from residential neighborhoods.

Since opening in 2002, about 13 million containers have been transported along the 20-mile Alameda Corridor, which connects the ports of L.A. and Long Beach with downtown L.A. rail yards and the national rail system, and is owned and governed by ACTA. Daily traffic volume currently averages more than 6,400 containers.
