The Maryland Port Administration (MPA) last week received the Presidential “E Star” Award for excellence in export service — the third time the administration has attained the honor.Created in 1969, the award recognizes noteworthy efforts to promote exports. The MPA won the award for registering a marked increase in exports over the past few years. From fiscal-year 2010 through FY2013, exports of general cargo from the Port of Baltimore’s public marine terminals increased 22.6 percent. General cargo includes containers, autos, farm and construction machinery, and forest products. "I want to congratulate the Maryland Port Administration for receiving this tremendous honor," said Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley in a press release. "This has helped the port maintain its position as one of Maryland’s leading economic engines."The MPA oversees six public marine terminals in Baltimore, and markets and promotes the port, which is served by CSX Transportation, Norfolk Southern Railway and Canton Railroad Co.
