The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) last week reported October traffic on the Port Authority Trans-Hudson (PATH) passenger-rail system continued to trend upward from the historic lows registered at the pandemic's height. But ridership remains well below 2019 levels.

PATH logged 3.3 million riders in October, down 56% from October 2019's level. However, ridership rose 10% from September 2021's mark.

In recent weeks, preliminary data indicates that the percentage of weekly PATH passengers has surpassed 50% of the pre-pandemic ridership average for the first time since the advent of COVID-19, PANYNJ officials said in a press release. That data is expected to be reflected in November ridership figures when they are confirmed.

Meanwhile, operations at the Port of New York and New Jersey remain fluid with an average wait time of less than 1.5 days year-to-date, authority officials said.

The seaport moved 796,704 20-foot equivalent units in October, continuing its record-setting activity for the 15th consecutive month. Cargo volume was up 20% from October 2019's level and reflected a 10% increase from September 2021's level.

The port is on pace to significantly exceed 2020 cargo volume and set a new annual record, authority officials said.
