Construction has begun on the South Port Commerce Center, a 1 million-square-foot industrial development at the Port of Little Rock, Arkansas.

Bluestem Partners is the project’s developer and Bailey Construction is building the center. A groundbreaking ceremony was held at the site July 14.

The 64-acre center will feature two buildings with clear heights of 36 feet. The project’s first phase will result in a 537,845-square-foot cross-dock facility with 68 dock doors, 52 future doors, four drive-in doors, 160 trailer parking spaces and 449 regular parking spaces.

The project’s second phase will result in a 428,000-square-foot cross-dock facility with 68 dock doors, 52 future docks, four drive-in doors, 143 trailer parking spaces and 300 regular spaces.

Completion of Phase 1 is scheduled for second-quarter 2023, Bluestem officials said in a press release.

"Centrally located with access to road, river, runway and rail, the Port of Little Rock has become the South’s premier location for investment," said Little Rock Mayor Frank Scott Jr.

The Port of Little Rock Railroad connects to Union Pacific Railroad and to BNSF Railway Co. via trackage/haulage rights.
