Plans for an intermodal logistics facility to be built in Victorville, California, were scrapped last week when city officials dissolved a longstanding agreement to develop the Southern California Logistics Rail Authority.
The Victorville City Council agreed to end the agreement due to economic circumstances and BNSF Railway Co.'s plan to build an intermodal rail facility in Barstow, California, the Victorville Daily Press reported.
In 2007, the council approved the agreement, which included a memorandum of understanding with BNSF to explore the development of an intermodal logistics facility at the airport.
"It has become apparent that there is no longer a need or justification to build rail facilities" next to the airport, said city officials, according to the newspaper.
In October 2022, BNSF announced plans to build a $1.5 billion rail complex in Barstow. The Barstow International Gateway will be a 4,500-acre integrated rail facility on the city's west side. It will feature a rail yard, intermodal facility and warehouses for transloading freight from international containers to domestic containers.
