The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) reported that 38,104 autos moved through its ports in April, an increase of 23.4% compared with April 2023 levels.
Auto volume through April was 12.3% greater than in the same period last year, PANYNJ officials said in a press release.
Rail volume in April climbed 3.8% from the previous year’s figure, totaling 53,547 containers. Rail volume from January through April was 6.8% greater than during the same period of 2023.
In April, PANYNJ moved a total of 709,469 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs), or 396,517 containers, a 9.4% year-over-year increase . The port’s year-to-April cargo volumes totaled 2,710,918 TEUs.
April imports totaled 349,792 TEUs, up 9%. From January through April, imports rose by 13% to 1,378,123 TEUs.
Meanwhile, exports jumped 10.5% to 121,847 TEUs in April.
