BNSF orders container-handling cranes for Memphis, Kansas City intermodal facilities
advertisement
Konecranes recently obtained a contract to supply 13 container-handling cranes from BNSF Railway Co., marking the company’s first order from an American intermodal operator. The wide-span Rail Mounted Gantry cranes will be delivered to the Class I’s Memphis and Kansas City, Kan., intermodal facilities.
The 140-foot cranes are designed to lift 40-ton containers and will enable BNSF to expand capacity at both facilities. The electric cranes will be equipped with Regenerative Network Braking units that enable energy to be released while lowering a container or during braking to be fed back to the local grid.
