For the second-straight year, BNSF Railway Co. is hosting events to tell truckers “we dig your rig.” This week, the railroad is honoring truck drivers at five intermodal facilities by posting banners expressing appreciation for motor carriers’ business — including “BNSF Really Digs Your Rig” signs — and providing drivers free lunch and refreshments.

The events in Chicago, Seattle, and Los Angeles, Oakland and San Bernardino, Calif., are designed to coincide with National Truck Driver Appreciation Week (Aug. 22-28). The Class I also has posted banners at eight other intermodal facilities.

“Relationships like the one we have with BNSF bring new capacity solutions to the marketplace,” said Bill Matheson, vice president and general manager of intermodal for trucking firm Schneider National Inc., in a prepared statement.

BNSF officials expect more than 6,000 truck drivers to enter the 13 terminals during the festivities.

"These events are our way of saying thanks to our trucking company partners and their drivers,” says John Hickerson, BNSF vice president of domestic intermodal. “Intermodal continues to be a growth area for BNSF and [our] truckload volume grew nearly 12 percent in the first half.”
