Rail News: Intermodal
Intermodal shippers spoke and BNSF Railway Co. listened. In January, the Class I will reintroduce international container service from Pacific Northwest to Memphis, Tenn., because customers have shown “renewed interest” in the move, BNSF said. The railroad discontinued the service in late 2005.
The Class I plans to continue increasing capacity — such as by expanding facilities — and improving efficiency on the Pacific Northwest-to-Memphis route.
“[We’re] pleased to offer ocean carrier customers and their shippers another North American gateway for goods moving between Asia and the rapidly growing Southeast market,” said Fred Malesa, vice president of international intermodal marketing, in a prepared statement.
BNSF also serves Chicago, Denver, St. Paul, Minn., and Omaha, Neb., from Pacific Northwest ports.
