Braskem, a major producer of polyolefins and biopolymers, yesterday announced the first international shipment of polypropylene from the company's new global export hub at the Port of Charleston in South Carolina.
Braskem's new hub provides packaging, warehousing and export shipping services to support the company's polypropylene production facilities in Texas, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. The hub has the capacity to support export shipments of up to 450 million pounds of polypropylene and specialty polymers annually to Braskem clients worldwide, company officials said in a press release.
Braskem partnered with the port and third-party logistics providers to construct, lease and provide services to the company under a five-year agreement. The new facility complements Braskem's network of global export hubs in North America, South America and Europe.
The Port of Charleston features daily express intermodal and merchandise rail services through CSX and Norfolk Southern Railway.
In 2019, the South Carolina Ports Authority handled a record-high 2.44 million 20-foot-equivalent container units.
