CN to launch Prince Rupert intermodal services in June

Yesterday, CN announced new import/export container train services between the Port of Prince Rupert, British Columbia, and Calgary and Edmonton, Alberta, will start in June.

Alberta is one of the fastest-growing industrial and consumer-based economies in North America and has a mounting need for efficient supply chains, CN officials said in a prepared statement. To support the province’s growing transportation needs, the Class I is relocating its Calgary Intermodal Terminal to a new 680-acre logistics park in Rocky View County near Calgary’s airport. Construction is under way and slated to conclude in January 2013.

The $200 million logistics park and new connectivity to both the port and Vancouver “will provide Alberta fluid access to world markets for consumer goods and industrial materials, as well as two prime export routes for its forest products, plastics and agri-products,” said Jean-Jacques Ruest, CN's executive vice president and chief marketing officer, in a prepared statement.
