CSXI's May fuel surcharge to surpass 5 percent

advertisement

On May 3, CSX Intermodal will increase its monthly fuel surcharge 0.7 percent to 5.6 percent compared with April. After holding steady at 4.5 percent in February and March, CSXI's surcharge rose 0.4 percent this month.

The company previously applied fuel surcharges of 3.7 percent, 3.6 percent, 3.6 percent, 3.0 percent, 3.7 percent and 3.1 percent in January, December, November, October, September and August, respectively.

CSXI adjusts its monthly surcharge the first Monday of each month based on the difference between the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) price index the previous Monday (in this case, April 26) and $1.10. CSXI calculates the percent difference between the DOE's "Retail Diesel Fuel Price Index" and $1.10, multiplies the figure by 10 percent and then again by 100. On April 26, DOE reported a diesel retail price of $1.72 per gallon.

The 5.6 percent surcharge applies to CSXI's ramp-to-ramp, ramp-to-door, door-to-ramp and door-to-door rates. The drayage-only fuel surcharge for May will be 9 percent.
