Rail News: Intermodal
CSX Intermodal (CSXI) recently began using Air2Web's 2CRM wireless communication system to provide 425 truck drivers mobile access to real-time data.
Designed to be used with any wireless carrier or handheld device, 2CRM enables CSXI drivers to send or receive trucking operation data. Drivers use the system to notify dispatchers about a shipment's status, including pickup and drop-off times. Dispatchers then can alert drivers about upcoming shipments and drivers relay back their availability.
"Previously, when we wanted to notify a driver about other available moves, we would call them and they would have to write down the pickup information," said Dale Lewis, CSXI assistant vice president of truck operations, in a prepared statement. "Now, they get all the details pushed to their wireless device."
The system is helping drivers save time and provide more accurate information to dispatchers, said CSXI spokesperson Misty Skipper.
