Dynacraft to establish gateway at Georgia port; R. J. Corman to operate Tennessee port

Bicycle supplier Dynacraft has chosen the Port of Savannah, Ga., as its new East Coast gateway. The California-based company will use the port operation to serve the Southeast and portions of the Southwest, Midwest and Mid-Atlantic regions.

Dynacraft has contracted third-party logistics provider California Cartage and leased 100,000 square feet for the first phase of its Savannah operation. The first import shipments are expected to arrive at the port on June 25.

The port's geographic location and "superior links" via road and rail mean Dynacraft’s products will reach shelves faster, said Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) Executive Director Curtis Foltz in a press release. The port is served by CSX Transportation, Norfolk Southern Railway and the Savannah Port Terminal Railroad.

"Constant improvements in port infrastructure, highway and rail capacity – coupled with smart business practices – are drawing new customers to our state," said GPA Chairman Robert Jepson.

Meanwhile, the Port of Cates Landing in Tiptonville, Tenn., has chosen R. J. Corman Railroad Group as operator.

Per an operating agreement, R. J. Corman will pay an unspecified amount of rent plus a percentage of gross operating receipts to the Northwest Tennessee Regional Port Authority. R. J. Corman will gain exclusive control of the port campus and help market the port, according to the Dyersburg State Gazette.

The company will operate the port through two six-month exploratory terms. At the end of either of the six-month terms, R. J. Corman can enter a 10-year operating agreement that includes a 10-year option.

The Mississippi River port, which opened last year, has access to CN. The port is in close proximity to interstates 55, 40, 24, 69 and 155, and near a large freight airport and rail center in Memphis, Tenn.
