Hudson Bay Railway to provide one leg of intermodal service to Canada's arctic region

OmniTRAX Inc.'s Hudson Bay Railway will play a role in helping Churchill Gateway Development Corp. increase intermodal moves between Winnipeg, Manitoba, and the Kivalliq Region, Nunavuet.

Hudson Bay, trucking firm Gardewine North, barge company Moosonee Transportation Ltd. and the Port of Churchill expect to complete at least seven intermodal moves between July and October compared with three last year — their first season of jointly providing Churchill Gateway's service to Canada's arctic region.

Gardewine North will move freight via truck from Winnipeg to The Pas, Manitoba, where Hudson Bay will move the shipments via rail to the Port of Churchill. Moosonee Transportation then will carry goods via barge to the Kivalliq Region.

The service is designed to enable Kivalliq Region customers to ship small or large cargo, including construction materials, vehicles, fuel and heavy equipment. Churchill Gateway plans to enable shippers to obtain a rate from Winnipeg to their destination via the Internet.
