Iowa Interstate Railroad LLC (IAIS) on Jan. 10 announced it purchased 30 acres at the industrial campus in Iowa City, Iowa, where the regional railroad will develop a new rail-to-truck transloading facility.

Located on the city’s southwest side, the site includes an existing rail spur, connects to the 573-mile IAIS network, and provides shippers with direct access to seven Class Is and numerous short lines, IAIS officials said in a press release. The location also is near Interstate 80 and U.S. highways 6 and 218.

"As we have seen with the numerous other transloading sites existing along our network, these facilities provide significant value to our customers and open the door for many other companies to become rail shippers," said IAIS President and CEO Joe Parsons.

IAIS officials anticipate the facility will open in summer 2023.
