JAXPORT's heavy-lift berth used to move locomotives

Master riggers at the Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT) yesterday moved two 363,000-pound locomotives through the heavy lift and special cargo berth at the Blount Island Marine Terminal.
CSX delivered the 68-foot long locomotives from Illinois. Portus stevedores loaded the locomotives onto the charter vessel Eemslift Dafne using the ship's onboard cranes, JAXPORT officials announced in a press release.
The move was arranged by Houston-based freight forwarder Logistics International Inc. and the cargo is en route to Guinea, West Africa.
JAXPORT terminals are served by 36 daily trains via CSX, Norfolk Southern Railway and Florida East Coast Railway.
Blount Island Marine Terminal is one of the nation's highest-capacity weight bearing docks, according to JAXPORT.
