J.B. Hunt launches Southern California transload service

J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. yesterday announced the launch of a transload service facility to support international cargo on the West Coast.

The facility, located near the Los Angeles and Long Beach ports, will provide port drayage and transloading services with access to rail and highway transport, J.B. Hunt officials said in a press release. The launch complements the company’s recent announcement of a long-term multivessel service agreement to expedite overseas freight delivery.

Port drayage will be streamlined by providing a fleet dedicated to transporting inbound ocean freight from the port to the new facility, minimizing demurrage and per diem costs and accelerating turn time to prepare freight for domestic transport, company officials said. Containers will be loaded directly onto company-owned marine chassis bound for the new facility.

The facility includes a 91,000-square-foot warehouse and 8 acres of parking for up to 300 containers.

J.B. Hunt launched its first transload service in November 2021 in the New York City area with port drayage, transloading and inland linehaul offerings.
