The Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT) yesterday announced that Mediterranean Shipping Co. (MSC) now offers a new Caribbean container service through the northern Florida port.The Florida Gulf Feeder service will connect Jacksonville to major transshipment hubs in the Dominican Republic and Bahamas. A container ship that inaugurates the new service is expected to arrive April 12 at the JAXPORT’s Blount Island Marine Terminal.In addition to Jacksonville, MSC’s port rotation for the service includes stops in Freeport, Bahamas; Rio Haina and Caucedo, Dominican Republic; and Fort Lauderdale, Florida.Florida Gulf Feeder will complement MSC’s existing service from Jacksonville to Freeport in the Bahamas through two other services. MSC also connects Jacksonville to four Asian ports.“This service expands our global reach by growing transshipment opportunities between Jacksonville and every major port in the world,” said JAXPORT CEO Eric Green in a press release.The port is served by CSX, Norfolk Southern Railway and Florida East Coast Railway.
