Kansas City Southern opened a new multi-commodity transload terminal in Dallas, the Class I announced yesterday.

Located at the site of KCS' Zacha intermodal facility, the new terminal will be named after Watco Transloading LLC, which will be its operator as of Oct. 17, according to a KCS press release.

The new transload facility has 9,523 feet of track space within the terminal and 80 acres of outside storage, as well as room to grow.

The former Zacha intermodal terminal closed when KCS opened a new, state-of-the-art intermodal facility in Wylie, Texas, last year. Since then, Zacha has provided limited transload operations under an interim operator.

"KCS is focused on growth through key business relationships and a strategically-positioned network," said KCS Executive Vice president and Chief Marketing Officer Brian Hancock. "Providing customers with supply chain solutions through our TransLoad Center network and partnerships with companies like Watco are important components of that growth."

The new terminal is the 55th to open within the Watco Terminal and Port Services network, according to Rob Thrall, Watco's vice president business development.
