In two months, Kansas City Southern, CenterPoint Properties, Hunt Midwest Enterprises Inc. and the Port Authority of Kansas City, Mo., expect to open KCS' intermodal facility at the former Richards-Gebaur Air Force base in Kansas City.
The parties are transforming the former military base into the International Freight Gateway at Richards-Gebaur, a transportation logistics hub. To open March 14, the intermodal terminal is the projects' first phase.
The parties currently are demolishing unusable buildings and runways, and soon will begin leveling and grading roadways and building sites at the industrial park.
"We will be ready to develop new industrial buildings by the end of 2008," said Fred Reynolds, CenterPoint Properties senior vice president of development, in a prepared statement.
