L.A. councilman McOsker to chair Alameda Corridor authority

The Alameda Corridor Transportation Authority (ACTA) has installed Los Angeles Council member Tim McOsker as chair and Long Beach Councilwoman Suely Saro as vice chair for the 2024-25 term. 

The leadership of ACTA’s governing board traditionally rotates between the representatives of the Los Angeles and Long Beach city councils each year.

In 2022, McOsker was elected to represent Los Angeles District 15, which includes Harbor City, Harbor Gateway, San Pedro, Watts, Wilmington and the Port of Los Angeles. An attorney, he previously was the CEO of AltaSea.

Saro is the first Cambodian American to serve as a Long Beach council member. She currently serves as a conservancy project development specialist for the San Gabriel and Lower Los Angeles Rivers and Mountains Conservancy.

ACTA is an intergovernmental agency that oversees the dedicated section of railway that runs from the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach to downtown L.A. Used by BNSF Railway Co. and Union Pacific Railroad, the 20-mile corridor — which opened in April 2002 — serves as a high-speed rail route.
 
"There is no doubt that the scale, function and utility of the Alameda Corridor to U.S. rail-cargo movement continues to be critically important to the success of the Los Angeles and Long Beach port complex,” said McOsker in a press release. “Speed, efficiencies and upcoming improvements in intermodal and on-dock rail infrastructure all place the Alameda Corridor at the center of the global supply chain.”
