L.A. port pumped up volume in April

Last month, the Port of Los Angeles handled a total of 707,182 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs), up 14.6 percent compared with April 2011 volume.
The total number of loaded containers climbed 14.9 percent year over year to 551,393 TEUs. Total inbound volume jumped 16.7 percent to 364,555 TEUs and total outbound volume rose 11.6 percent to 186,838 TEUs. In addition, the total number of empty containers increased 13.3 percent to 155,789 TEUs.
Through 2012’s first four months, the port handled 2,582,003 TEUs, up 6.1 percent compared with the same 2011 period.
