Rail News: Intermodal
Last month, the Port of Los Angeles handled more than 700,000 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs), breaking its monthly record of 676,399 TEUs set in July 2004. Volume increased 10 percent in October compared with October 2004, when the port was dealing with congestion caused by labor and rail equipment shortages, and unprecedented traffic.
“Our record container volume last month underscores that … during this peak shipping season, the business is flowing and flowing efficiently through this port,” said interim port Executive Director Bruce Seaton in a prepared statement.
During 2005’s first 10 months, the port’s volume increased 1.3 percent compared with the same 2004 period.
