Later this week, MHF Logistical Solutions Inc. plans to unveil its Shielded Multi-Use Type-A Container Transport System, a top-loading, lead-lined container designed to transport radioactive materials by rail or truck.

The container can be loaded and unloaded with existing equipment at nuclear facilities. MHF Logistical Solutions owns high-capacity articulated flat cars each designed to transport four of the containers, which are certified for use in North America and overseas.

"By making it easier to adopt intermodal shipping, we can help customers harness the many advantages of rail transport even if their facility is not served by rail," said MHF Logistical Solutions Nuclear Program Manager Gene Gleason in a prepared statement. "Intermodal truck-to-rail shipping helps avoid having to move materials on roads through populated areas."

MHF Logistical Solutions produces packaging and transportation products; provides intermodal services for bulk solid and liquid, and packaged freight, and hazardous and radioactive materials; manages a fleet of more than 1,350 rail cars and truck equipment, and more than 2,500 containers; and handles intermodal and bulk transfers at transload facilities in Louisiana, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Tennessee and Utah.
