Rail News: Intermodal
Today, Norfolk Southern Railway is launching a Trailer Management Program (TMP) designed to increase trailer capacity for the fall peak.
In conjunction with GE Rail Services, the Class I will supply a fleet of NS-controlled 48-foot trailers — operating out of the railroad’s Chicago and Toledo, Ohio, terminals — for intermodal marketing company (IMC) customers.
TMP trailers will be available for outbound traffic from Chicago to Albany and Buffalo, N.Y.; Ayer, Mass.; Baltimore; Bethlehem, Morrisville, Rutherford and Taylor, Pa.; Croxton and Erail, N.J.; and Greensboro, N.C. Trailers also will be available for outbound traffic from Toledo to Ayer and Croxton.
IMC customers can reserve a TMP trailer from the available pool using NS’ online reservation system. The Class I will charge an empty return fee of $130 per trailer to cover the cost of returning equipment to Chicago or Toledo.
