Norfolk Southern Corp. is about to begin taking delivery of 900 53-foot, ultra-wide containers. Designed to fit on existing 53-foot chassis and accommodate pin wheeling of palletized freight, the containers can carry 25 standard pallets — three more than a 53-foot Equipment Management Program (EMP) container.
The 102-inch-wide containers can be moved by any EMP-participating railroad.
In April, NS began taking delivery of 3,900 53-foot EMP containers and 4,300 chassis.
