Odyssey Logistics and Technology Corp. last week broke ground on the construction of a 121,680-square-foot metals transload facility in the CenterPoint Intermodal Center (CIC) in Joliet, Ill.Odyssey subsidiary CMI Logistics LLC will operate the CIC-Joliet/Logistics Park Chicago. The facility's location will offer "easy access" to BNSF Railway Co.'s intermodal yards through the park's heavyweight road system, said Brian McKiernan, CenterPoint's senior vice president of development, in a press release.The site provides access for flatbed motor carriers bringing metal products into CMI from Interstate 55 and Interstate 80."This is an investment in the future of our business and will better serve our metals industry clients," said Bob Shellman, president and chief executive officer of Odyssey. "The additional square footage over our current facility will increase our throughput by 20 percent, provide for a larger container staging area and improve operational efficiencies."The new facility will feature 10 docks, six drive-through doors, 16 trailer positions, nearly 6,000 square feet of office space, 51 car parking spots, and reinforced slab floors.The facility is expected to be completed by early second-quarter 2017.
