Rail News: Intermodal
Last week, Pacer Stacktrain added a lane to its PacerMex Laredo and PacerMex NonStop intermodal services. Pacer now offers service from Memphis, Tenn., to Laredo, Texas, and several Mexican cities, including Monterrey, San Luis Potosi, Queretaro and Mexico City.
A ramp-to-ramp, double-stack service between Chicago and Mexico, PacerMex NonStop moves freight in-bond to avoid border delays. As part of the service, Pacer processes in-bond permits in Laredo, and provides 48- and 53-foot containers and chassis.
Introduced in March 2003, the service initially targeted general merchandise moving between the Midwest and Mexico. In September, Pacer added origin and destination points in Kearny, N.J. (serving the New York City area), Baltimore, and Philadelphia and Harrisburg, Pa.
CSX Transportation moves freight to the Northeast; TFM S.A. de C.V. moves freight and provides liability coverage in Mexico.
