Pacer International Inc. recently appointed Robert Starzel to its board to succeed Marc Becker, who resigned.

Chairman of the San Francisco Newspaper Co., Starzel previously served Union Pacific Railroad as senior representative of the chairman, senior vice president and vice president-Western Region. He also served a stint as vice chairman of Southern Pacific Transportation Co. until the railroad merged with UP in 1996.

“With his close ties to the Union Pacific and other railroads and
transportation modes, Pacer will benefit from [Starzel’s] guidance and expertise as we seek to further strengthen our strategic relationships with the leading North American railroads and transportation providers,” said Pacer Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Don Orris in a prepared statement.

Pacer provides intermodal, trucking, third-party logistics, warehousing, distribution and international freight forwarding services.
