Pacer International Inc. recently restructured its management staff to streamline operations, consolidate work functions and strengthen the company’s core intermodal business.

The company promoted Dan Beers to chief commercial officer for the intermodal segment; Jean Krafft, to vice president of sales for Pacer Global Logistics to succeed Chief Commercial Officer Randy Strutz, who resigned; Derrel Chappell, to VP of domestic, automotive and Mexico sales for Pacer Stacktrain; and David Hoppens, to the newly created position of VP-corporate marketing for Pacer International.

Most recently Pacer Stacktrain’s executive VP of sales, Beers will be responsible for Pacer Stacktrain’s and Pacer Global Logistics’ sales, and continue to oversee the ocean carrier and Mexico business units, and stacktrain unit’s customer support. He will report to Pacer International President Tom Shurstad. Beers previously served as president of Swift Intermodal and senior VP of intermodal, automotive and North American carload sales for the former TFM S.A de C.V.

Krafft, who will continue to report to Beers, most recently served as VP of strategy and planning for Pacer Stacktrain. She previously held various operational and commercial management positions at Pacer International, a steamship line and intermodal marketing company.

Chappell, who also will continue to report to Beers, most recently was VP of automotive and Mexico sales for Pacer Stacktrain. He previously held various management positions with Pacer and its predecessors, and served Union Pacific Railroad for 24 years in various sales management capacities.

Finally, Hoppens, who will report to Shurstad and Pacer Logistics Chief Operating Officer Jeffrey Brashares, most recently served as VP of marketing for Pacer Stacktrain. Hoppens previously held various sales and marketing management positions at iFLEET.net and CSX Intermodal.

As part of the restructuring, Pacer also named Larry Savage president of the highway and supply chain services group and Jim Ward, chief information officer.

Reporting to Brashares, Savage previously served Eagle Global Logistics as VP of ground operations and VP of the select carrier group. Reporting to Pacer International Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Mike Uremovich, Ward had been serving as Pacer’s acting CIO. He previously was CIO at Inchcape Shipping Services, Norton Lilly International and Clark Steel.
