The Plaquemines Port Harbor and Terminal District in Louisianayesterday rebranded as the Louisiana Gateway Port.
The rebranding reflects the port’s mission to boost the state of Louisiana’s role in international commerce trade. Louisiana Gateway Port anticipates becoming the fifth largest U.S. port by tonnage in the next five years, port officials said in a press release.
The port is located on the first 81 miles of the Mississippi River closest to the Gulf of Mexico. It offers connection to Union Pacific Railroad via the New Orleans and Gulf Coast Railway Co. The port provides water access to more than 30 states for oil, grain, coal, liquified natural gas and chemicals.
